I am a Jesuit Volunteer serving as a Domestic Violence Intervention Paralegal for Legal Aid’s Domestic Unit this year. I interview clients who need representation for orders of protection, divorce, and custody cases. When I am not directly interacting with clients, I draft pleadings for attorneys, present cases to attorneys, help organize the pro se divorce classes, and sometimes even assist attorneys and clients at court!
Through this volunteer position, I have been able to learn so much about the legal process and how attorneys can help survivors of domestic violence protect themselves and their families. I am excited to continue learning how to help and support clients throughout the rest of my time at Legal Aid.
Jesuit Volunteers do incredible, life-changing work on the frontlines of justice. Supporting one of over 250 incredible partners, JVs work full-time for a year or two and live in community with other young leaders dedicated to a more just and hopeful world.
