Legal Aid of Western Missouri held their Birthday Party with a Purpose on October 17th at the Boulevard Brewing Company. More than 120 supporters, community leaders, staff members, and volunteer attorneys gathered to celebrate six decades of providing legal services to vulnterable individuals with low incomes.
For the past 60 years, Legal Aid has been on a mission to provide civil legal services that promote family stabilization, housing security, community development, and individual well-being. In the last decade alone, they’ve made a life-changing impact for over 114,000 individuals and families.
Alicia Johnson, Executive Director of Legal Aid, attributes their success to the heart and dedication of the staff. “The people we hire are deeply committed to improving the world around them. Our clients aren’t just cases; they are valued individuals, and our team listens with compassion to people society often overlooks,” Johnson said.
Board President Gillian Wilcox highlighted Legal Aid’s deep-rooted connection to the community. She said, “For 60 years, we’ve been a cornerstone in the community, ensuring justice is within reach. As we celebrate this milestone, we’re excited about expanding our work and continuing to advocate for those who need us most.”
Legal Aid looks forward to expanding its reach and evolving to meet the ever-changing legal needs of Missourians who rely on their support.
