LEGAL AID SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDS BILL AND JOHN AGAINST THEIR UNFAIR LANDLORD
Bill and John rented a mobile home and lot from their landlord. Bill also worked for the landlord in the mobile home park. Bill’s landlord systematically underpaid him for his work, discounted his hours unfairly, and finally shut off electric service to the mobile home he occupied in an attempt to forcefully evict him. When discussion with the landlord gave no productive results, Legal Aid filed suit on behalf of the couple for statutory forcible entry based on the utility shutoff. The landlord filed a counterclaim for unpaid rent and the matter was set for trial after discovery was completed. On the day of trial, the landlord agreed to settle the case by paying a cash sum to Bill and John and by dismissing its rent claims with prejudice.
